Introducing the qualification
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the principles and theories that underpin playwork, and the importance of play in the lives of children aged 4-16. It covers the knowledge and skills required when working under supervision and requires learners to demonstrate the full application of their knowledge, understanding, and skills over a period of time in the workplace.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
Employment in before? and after?school clubs, holiday playschemes, adventure playgrounds, open access play settings, and play ranger roles.

Duration
There will be an expectation for candidates to achieve the diploma within 12 months.

Assessment
Assessment is through submission of evidence in a portfolio to demonstrate that the requirements are met to a relevant standard.

Entry requirements
There are no formal qualification requirements, but learners will undertake an initial assessment to determine the appropriate level and optional units. Learners must be in an appropriate job role, or volunteering for a minimum of 3 sessions per week, to collect the relevant evidence. Learners need to be in a setting for children aged 4-16 years old.

Qualification structure
Learners must achieve a total of 56 credits; 40 credits from the 12 mandatory units and 16 credits from the optional units

Delivery methods
An coach will be assigned to support the learner through the qualification. This will involve observation of the learner in their workplace. There will also be online workshops/tutorials to support the learner through the knowledge and understanding to build their portfolio.
Skills based units are assessed in the workplace, using observation, witness testimonies, work products, written accounts and questioning.
